Hi Madam Lee, after many years of studying Feng Shui, I have a few burning questions that I thought would create an interesting conversation/dialogue.  My first question is….. If one incorporates everything they possibly can or know about Feng Shui into their home, in all areas of life, does this guarantee or automatically mean that their lives should be incredibly successful, healthy, creative, happy, etc., etc.? If not, why not and how would one then achieve greater success, health and happiness?  – Colin from the United States

Hi Colin,  that’s a deep question and yes for many people their ideal is to achieve the best possible outcome for all that they have learned and implemented. Yet there are many things we don’t know and don’t always have control over. For example a developer pulling down a building next door to the West of you in 2015 would create a huge possibility for accidents, sickness money loss etc, as the San Sha or 3 Killings annual energy and the 5 Yellow are there; creating a violation which is doubled in the month of January 2016.

According to the Chinese masters our past life karma also may yet to be played out in our lives and this can be understood and explained by a very experienced Ba Zi Master when they look at your 4 Pillars of Destiny.  The advice then given by them can range from avoiding funerals to hosting dinners, working charitably and giving offerings to reduce the possible effect of these negative influences.

Also as we ourselves become more increasingly aware and fine tune our lives, we can sense imbalances and adjust things accordingly; including for example the awareness of the person you were impatient with yesterday energetically bringing a possible mishap today. We need to live our lives in accordance with nature and strive to be constantly developing ourselves in our heart and minds, to be the best we can be. This in turn allows energy to flow and good things to come our way. Feng Shui of your home and environment is Earth Luck and yes we need to live in a harmonious and balanced environment; however we also need to constantly better ourselves and our world in order to balance and support our future.

The 9-Grid shown is not accurate….the western side sections are larger than the other side…how can I trust this magazine if you show an erroneous Grid division??

Hi Maria. Unfortunately most of the software available for displaying the 9 Palace internal arrangement of spaces does not allow for the natural inclination of ch’i to expand and contract according to the presence or absence of solid walls. This illustration is meant only as an example and not intended for use as part of a Flying Star consultation. Indeed the majority of house plans nowadays do not allow for an even distribution of ch’i and hence the size of the 9 Palaces varies according to the size of the rooms they fall into and in some cases are not present at all. A software program such as this is actually a good starting point for an internal assessment, but an experienced practitioner will then adjust the size and placement of the Palaces according to the design of the home and this is often done by hand. If you are interested in learning more about the 9 Palace method may I suggest GM Dr. Stephen Skinner’s book titled ‘Advanced Flying Star Feng Shui’. Chapter 8 deals entirely with the subject of ‘Placing the Lo Shu over the Building Floorplan’ and is an excellent read.
