Evaluating stairs inside a home is always an interesting job, at least from a Feng Shui perspective. They are built as a ‘connector’ to link various levels of a building to each other and as such are conduits of energy between upper and lower floors.

Effective (or well designed) staircases can distribute nourishing energy and ensure that it gets to every part of the home. On the other hand, harmful staircases will restrict energy flow and can even transform positive Qi into Sha or negative Qi. From an internal form related Feng Shui perspective, here are some general guidelines:

1. Spiral staircases are undesirable as they enhance malevolent energy. Energy should rise evenly as a cylindrical column and not be forced to twist or funnel upwards.stairs 3

2. Narrow stairs that lead straight to the upper levels with only a small landing at each floor are also undesirable, because the gradient of the ascending (or descending) energy is too steep, and the rush of energy can be overwhelming.

3. Stairs should be wide and shallow so they can facilitate the gentle rise and fall of energy.

4. In most cases, stairs should not face the front door. It should also be noted that the severity of the internal designs and the optimum location of the stairs should also depend on the influences of the Flying Star energies.  Check out these stunning staircase designs. Do you think they are Feng Shui appropriate?
